Susan Avishai  -

These new floral paintings are a description of the chaos and complexity of nature from which it is only sometimes possible to find order and rarely to improve.  But beauty or meaning does not always require order to be truthful, and truth does not require exactitude in rendering.  I prefer the wild tangle and interconnectedness of life as my subject over the isolation of the single bloom from its visual context.

The scenes I choose to paint are the ones which leave me awestruck in life, whether by colour, light, shape, or a floral delicacy or hardiness which could never be man-made.  The work attempts to convey empathy and gratitude.

Susan’s work has been exhibited in extensively throughout Canada, the United States and Israel. She studied at Musee des Beaux Arts in Montreal, Academie Julien in Paris, and Concordia University and Hollins University in Virginia. Susan has worked as a freelance illustrator of children’s books and magazine editorials, she is now living and working in Toronto.
